Access to outdoors is essential for people all ages. So to reflect this, each and every private room has access to the outdoors with a small private space.

Throughout the design, the use of natural and organic elements such as plants, water, stone and woods to create a calming and serene environment. This activity room features a custom water fall feature and an organic drop down feature ceiling. This space also connects to an outdoor space that is completely gated for residents safety.

As the benefits for biophilic design are not only limited to the residents, but it also benefits the staff. Which is why a green wall and other organic elements are implemented in their workspace.

Institutional Long Term Care Home Main Floor Garden Area
Having a garden area was important as horticultural therapy has many known benefits to humans. The important part to note is that these plant beds are entirely accessible as those with wheel chairs can roll right under. The room is an indoor/outdoor area that is roofed, but open to the courtyard. The ceiling has a feature plant grid to reinforce the feeling of being outdoors.

The courtyard is a common area where residents, guests, or staff have a wide range of seating options, and biophilic elements to keep one a peace for hours. The yard features a central water fountain the provide arrhythmic sound.

Institutional Long Term Care Home Roof Terrace
On the large roof terrace, there is a multitude of different activities to be done. There is a large grass area where residents can take the younger children of their families to play. This is also beneficial to residents who are still mobile and agile, as they can bring equipment such as a frisbee, soccer ball or yoga matt, to partake in. There are also two water fountains with organically curved seating surrounding it.

The building here is where guests and residents can come to get any sort of equipment to provide them with alternative physical activities. This building also has a large extending roof awning to provide seating areas with shade.

Institutional Long Term Care Home Presentation: Ground Floor Plan
The floor plan boast 28 private residential units with common areas such as activity rooms, lounges, courtyard, garden, cafeteria, a salon, great hall, and a private hall for events. There are spaces for staff such as their breakout lunch area, the nurse station and private offices. Outdoor areas are maximized to provide each residential unit with an outdoor area which accesses right from their room or multiple places throughout the care home. The entry also provides a double door for security of residents. Completed using Revit.

The main level courtyard is open to below to allow for the trees planted to flourish. The roof terrace features a large gras field, tables with seating, bench seating over multiple different areas, two water fountains with custom seating around. Each side of the roof terrace has elevator access and an exit staircase. Bathrooms are featured in the equipment building for residents, staff or guests to use. Completed using Revit.
